Good to know: Labuan Bajo Dive Cruise is operated by Komodo Luxury, a real award-winning Indonesian liveaboard operator (TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice 2022–2025, founded 2015, part of Juara Holding Group Limited). Komodo National Park (UNESCO 1991) requires park entry fees/permits — general information, verify current rates. Dive-site conditions and seasons are indicative and vary; Komodo currents are strong and many north sites are advanced. Marine life — mantas, hammerheads — is seasonal and wild, and can never be guaranteed. Prices are indicative ranges, by quote, and vary by vessel, cabin, season and trip length. A 7 day Komodo dive cruise is a week-long liveaboard itinerary sailing from Labuan Bajo to explore the north, central and remote south of Komodo National Park with up to four dives per day. On this page, I’ll explain how a full-week Komodo 7 day diving cruise works, who it’s for, what you actually see and how we design these trips aboard our own luxury phinisi fleet.
As Dive Cruise Director at Labuan Bajo Dive Cruise, I design each week Komodo dive cruise for Komodo Luxury – an award‑winning Indonesian liveaboard operator based in Bali and Labuan Bajo. Our 7‑day routes are the longest Komodo programs we run regularly, and they are the best choice if you are a serious diver, photographer, or you want the highest chance of both mantas and iconic macro in one itinerary.
Komodo National Park was established in 1980, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991, and lies inside the Coral Triangle. That means dense marine life, strong currents and a wide range of conditions between the warm north and cooler south. A long Komodo dive cruise lets us use that entire range.
Why Choose a 7-Day Komodo Dive Cruise?
A full week in Komodo gives you time for:
- North, central and south Komodo in one trip
- Repeat dives at the best sites in their ideal conditions
- A more relaxed schedule with genuine surface-interval rest
- Extra space in the plan for macro dives, night dives and photography
Shorter itineraries (3–4 days) are fantastic if your time is limited, but they usually focus on central and, if tides allow, either a taste of north or south. A 7 day Komodo dive cruise is the right choice if you want to experience the park as a complete system: mantas at cleaning stations, fish-heavy current dives, and cooler‑water macro in the south.
We operate these long Komodo dive cruises from Labuan Bajo using our own luxury wooden phinisi liveaboards, designed and owned by Komodo Luxury: Komodo Signature and Komodo Prestige. These are modern Indonesian phinisi yachts with ensuite cabins, chef‑prepared meals and full dive-deck facilities.
Our 7-Day Route: North, Central & South (Indicative Only)
Conditions and sites in Komodo are highly tide‑ and season‑dependent, so every itinerary is adapted in real time. Think of the route below as a realistic example, not a rigid schedule.
Typical Structure of a Komodo 7 Day Diving Cruise
- Embarkation / Disembarkation: Labuan Bajo, Flores
- Duration: 7 days / 6 nights (or 7 nights depending on departure time)
- Typical dives: 18–22+ dives depending on conditions and check-in/out timing
- Areas covered: North Komodo, Central Komodo, South Rinca / South Komodo (weather permitting)
We plan around the main current cycles (tides and moon), visibility windows and the seasonal thermocline that affects mantas and macro.
Central Komodo: Classic Sites & Mantas
Most weeks include multiple days around central Komodo. Specific site choices vary but typically include a mix of:
- Karang Makassar & Mawan area – known for manta cleaning and feeding activity, mostly drift-style dives over rubble and sand with coral blocks. Manta rays are wild and seasonal; no operator can guarantee encounters, but a 7‑day trip allows more timing flexibility to catch them.
- Tatawa area – high‑current soft‑coral reefs with big fish action when the timing is right, and gentler moments when we hit slack or smaller exchanges.
- Siaba & similar sheltered bays – excellent for check dives, training dives, and occasional macro / turtle dives, with generally mild currents.
Central Komodo is where we balance different experience levels on board: carefully timed currents for newer guests, and more energetic passes for advanced divers once we’ve seen how everyone handles the water.
North Komodo: High-Energy Pinnacles (Advanced)
North Komodo usually has warmer, clearer water and some of the fishiest dives in the park – but also some of the strongest currents. Many sites in this area are advanced only, and we take them seriously:
- Batu Bolong – a steep reef that can deliver intense fish action, but only when dived on very specific tide windows. When currents pick up, the site develops dangerous down‑currents and is not suitable for less experienced divers. Even qualified divers are guided carefully, staying on the protected side.
- Castle Rock / similar submerged seamounts – classic current‑swept pinnacles with pelagic traffic. We use negative entries and strict group control here and only dive them with guests who show good buoyancy, comfort and air management in less demanding conditions first.
On a week Komodo dive cruise, we can be patient. If a tide window isn’t ideal for Batu Bolong or another advanced site on one day, we often have a second chance later in the week.
South Rinca & South Komodo: Cannibal Rock and Macro‑Rich Reefs
A major reason to choose a 7 day Komodo dive cruise is the time to head south, where the water is often cooler and richer in nutrients, especially during parts of the southeast monsoon.
Key area highlights can include:
- Cannibal Rock (South Rinca area) – one of Komodo’s most famous macro and soft‑coral sites, known for dense invertebrate life, nudibranchs and critters. Temperatures can drop significantly here compared with the north, and visibility can vary, but for macro photographers this is a “must”.
- Nearby walls and bays – including seamounts and slopes that can deliver frogfish, seahorses and other macro subjects, with occasional visits from larger fish.
- Rinca region – depending on park regulations and conditions, we may combine south dives with an option for a short trek to see Komodo dragons on Rinca Island on certain itineraries.
Reaching Cannibal Rock and the wider south comfortably, and then still having time to return north without rushing, is what really differentiates a long Komodo dive cruise from shorter trips.
Seasonality: When a 7-Day Cruise Makes the Most Sense
Komodo is diveable all year, but conditions vary significantly between seasons and between north, central and south. We always brief guests honestly: we can plan for the best windows, but weather, currents and visibility are never guaranteed.
This is an indicative overview:
- January–March
- Often wetter, with fewer boats and generally good manta chances around central sites. South can be exposed at times; we adapt route to weather.
- April–June
- Transition to drier season; often excellent visibility in the north, cooling trends towards the south. Fantastic window for a 7‑day itinerary covering all regions.
- July–September
- Drier southeast monsoon. North usually clear and blue; south can be cooler and rich in nutrients, favouring macro and critters. Winds can affect surface conditions; longer trips allow more flexible routing.
- October–December
- Another transition period with variable but often very good diving. Manta observations can be strong around central sites at certain times. Storms occasionally affect planning.
Because wildlife is truly wild, no manta, shark or hammerhead encounter is ever guaranteed. A 7‑day cruise does, however, give us more opportunities to adjust our daily plan around the best available conditions and reports in the park.
Who Our 7-Day Komodo Dive Cruises Are For
A full‑week itinerary is not just “more of the same.” It attracts a particular type of diver and group.
Ideal Guests
-
Experienced fun divers (Advanced level or equivalent)
If you are already comfortable in currents and have solid buoyancy, you will get the most from advanced sites like Batu Bolong and the northern pinnacles. -
Underwater photographers & videographers
The extra days mean repeat dives on key sites, slower schedules, and more time to focus on composition – especially in the south for macro and in central areas for mantas and schooling fish. -
Serious dive travelers
If Komodo is a highlight trip for you, or you are combining it with Bali and Raja Ampat, a 7‑day route lets you “do Komodo properly” in one go instead of making multiple shorter visits. -
Private charters & small groups
Families or friends who want tailored diving can use a 7‑day window to mix advanced dives for stronger divers with more relaxed sites and additional activities for others, without sacrificing the park’s major highlights.
Minimum Certification & Experience
Komodo is not a beginner’s destination. We strongly recommend for a 7‑day cruise:
- Certification:
- Minimum: Open Water with recent experience
-
Strongly recommended: Advanced Open Water (or equivalent) + Nitrox, especially for repeat‑deep profiles and current sites
-
Experience:
- At least 20–30 logged dives
- Prior exposure to some current and drift diving is very helpful
We always match sites to real‑world ability on board. Some of the most famous north Komodo dives may be limited to experienced divers only on a given day. Safety and control take priority over ticking a “bucket list” site.
If you are newer and still want a longer trip, we can design a 7‑day route that focuses more on central and gentler sites, then gradually increase complexity once we see you are comfortable.
Life On Board: Komodo Signature & Komodo Prestige
Our cruises are operated by Komodo Luxury, founded in 2015 and part of Juara Holding Group Limited, licensed under KBLI 79120 and based in Denpasar, Bali with major operations in Labuan Bajo. Komodo Luxury has earned TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, reflecting consistent guest satisfaction – but we consider those awards a baseline, not a finish line.
Labuan Bajo Dive Cruise designs and runs the Komodo itineraries on two owned luxury phinisi liveaboards:
- Komodo Signature – our luxury wooden phinisi with ensuite cabins, indoor and outdoor lounges, and a dive deck designed for efficient gearing up and entries.
- Komodo Prestige – another fully owned phinisi in the same standard category, with comfortable social areas, air‑conditioned cabins and full safety, navigation and compressor systems.
We never charter random local boats for our scheduled dives; the vessels we describe are the boats you board.
What a Typical Day Looks Like on a 7-Day Komodo Liveaboard
The exact flow can change by day and by season, but a representative schedule is:
- 06:00–06:30 – Light breakfast, coffee/tea
- 07:00–08:00 – First dive (often a current site or a manta cleaning station)
- 08:30–10:30 – Full breakfast + surface interval
- 10:30–11:30 – Second dive
- 12:00–14:30 – Lunch, rest, move to next site
- 14:30–15:30 – Third dive
- 17:30–18:30 – Optional sunset / night dive (several evenings during the week)
- 19:00 onwards – Dinner, photo review, briefings for the next day
On some days we adjust the pattern for:
- Land excursions – such as a Komodo or Rinca dragon walk (subject to park rules and weather) or a viewpoint hike.
- Long crossings between north and south – during which we may do three dives instead of four to ensure good rest.
How Many Dives Are Included in a Week?
The number of dives on a 7‑day itinerary is influenced by:
- Exact embarkation and disembarkation times
- Weather and sea conditions
- Long transfers between areas (e.g., north–south)
- Your preference for night dives
Typical indicative range for a 7‑day Komodo dive cruise:
- Total dives: Around 18–22+
- Night dives: Usually 2–3 optional evenings (where conditions allow)
- Maximum daily dives: Normally up to 4 (including night)
We never set a rigid “promised” number if doing so would pressure the schedule into unsafe surface intervals or poor site choices. The goal is the quality of diving and recovery, not just the raw count.
Safety, Currents and Honest Expectations
Komodo’s reputation for big fish and mantas comes from powerful currents that concentrate nutrients and life. That same energy demands respect.
Currents and Site Selection
- Strong currents & down‑currents can appear rapidly at certain sites, especially in the north.
- We time advanced dives with great care, using tide tables, local knowledge and real‑time observation.
- If we decide to skip or shorten a dive because conditions are unsafe, that decision is final; your safety is the priority.
Briefings and Grouping
On our 7‑day cruises:
- Divers are grouped by experience level and air consumption as much as possible
- We use detailed site briefings including expected currents, entry techniques and exit plans
- SMBs and reef hooks may be used on certain dives, with guidance where appropriate
If at any point you feel uncomfortable, letting the guide know is encouraged and respected. Adjusting the dive profile is always an option.
Indicative Pricing for a 7-Day Komodo Dive Cruise
Prices for a week‑long Komodo cruise vary by:
- Vessel (Komodo Signature vs Komodo Prestige)
- Cabin type and occupancy
- Season (higher around peak holiday periods and best‑weather windows)
- Group size and private‑charter vs scheduled departure
- Specific inclusions you choose (e.g., nitrox, rental gear, private guide)
For a 7‑day / 6–7‑night liveaboard in Komodo on our luxury phinisi fleet, an indicative per‑person range (last verified June 2026) is:
- Shared cabin on scheduled cruise:
Typically from mid to upper triple‑digit USD per person per night, depending on season and cabin. - Private charter of the whole vessel:
Usually quoted as a total boat rate per night, often reaching into the low to mid five‑figure USD range for a full 7‑day charter, depending on vessel, dates and requested configuration.
These are guiding bands only. We quote each trip individually to keep pricing accurate and transparent for your specific dates and needs.

Komodo National Park Fees & Permits
Komodo National Park is a protected area with regulated visitor access. Divers must pay park entrance fees, diving fees and other local charges that support conservation and management.
Because these fees are set by Indonesian authorities and may change, we do not list exact amounts here. Instead:
- Expect separate park and diving fees in addition to your cruise rate
- Charges can differ by day of the week, nationality and activity (diving, trekking, etc.)
- Some components are collected on board for settlement with local agencies
We provide current indicative totals in your quotation and pre‑departure information, and we always recommend that you verify the latest park fee structure shortly before your trip.
How Our 7-Day Cruises Compare to Shorter Itineraries
To help you decide if a long Komodo dive cruise is right for you, here is an at‑a‑glance comparison:
| Feature | 3–4 Day Cruise | 7 Day Komodo Dive Cruise |
|---|---|---|
| Typical area coverage | Central + either some north or some south (not both in depth) | North, central and south (conditions permitting) |
| Indicative total dives | Up to ~9–12 dives | Usually ~18–22+ dives |
| Chance to reach Cannibal Rock | Limited; usually only on specific south-focused short trips | Realistic goal on many itineraries with good weather windows |
| Number of manta sessions possible | Usually 1–2 dives at manta sites | Multiple visits or repeated dives if conditions are right |
| Pace & rest | More compressed; less flexibility for weather/hiccups | More relaxed; room to adjust route and repeat favourites |
| Best for | Time-limited divers, mixed-activity holidays | Serious divers, photographers, charters wanting “full Komodo” |

FAQs
What is included in a 7-day Komodo dive cruise?
A typical 7-day cruise includes your cabin on board, all main meals and snacks, guided diving with tanks and weights, and use of the vessel’s facilities. Park fees, dive gear rental, nitrox, alcoholic drinks and certain land excursions are usually charged separately. Your written quote will list inclusions and exclusions clearly for your specific trip.
How many dives will I do on a week-long Komodo cruise?
Most guests complete around 18–22 dives on a 7-day itinerary, including 2–3 night dives where conditions allow. The final number depends on embark/disembark times, weather, route choices and how many night dives you choose to join. We will never sacrifice safety or reasonable rest periods to “push” for extra dives.
Is Komodo safe for less experienced divers on a 7-day trip?
Komodo has strong currents, and some sites are strictly advanced. However, with honest pre-trip assessment and careful daily planning, confident Open Water divers with some recent experience can join many parts of the itinerary. We may limit participation on certain advanced dives to more experienced guests and offer gentler alternatives where possible.
How much does a 7-day Komodo dive cruise cost?
As an indicative range verified in June 2026, a 7-day cruise on a luxury phinisi in Komodo typically falls into the mid to upper triple-digit USD per person per night on scheduled departures, with full-vessel private charters generally priced in the low to mid five-figure USD range for the week. Exact pricing depends on vessel, cabin, season, and whether the trip is private or shared; we quote each departure individually.
